FAQ: Austin International Film Festival 2025 – Online Festival

What is an Online Screening?
An online screening means your film will be shown digitally through our secure, private festival platform. Only ticket holders will have access, and your film will not be publicly available to the general public.

Will my film be playing in a theater?
No, your film will be screened exclusively online this year. However, it will still be eligible for awards just like in-person screenings, and it allows your friends, family, and fans from anywhere in the world to celebrate your success from the comfort of their own screens.

When does the Online Festival take place?
The Online Festival will run from April 19th through Aril 30th, 2026.

How does the online screening work?
Audiences will be able to purchase Online Festival tickets through our website. Once they have a ticket, they’ll receive private, secure access to the festival’s online screening portal. Your film will be part of a curated block, and we will send you details about your block and exact timing so you can promote your screening directly to your audience.

Can my friends and family buy tickets to watch my film?
Yes! Anyone can purchase a ticket and watch your film online — no matter where they are in the world. It’s a great way to share your achievement with people who can’t travel to Austin in person.

Is my film’s online screening considered public?
No. Your film will only be viewable through private, secure ticketed access. This will not impact your eligibility for other festivals that require no public release or screening.

Do I have to participate in the Online Festival?
Participation is optional, but we would love for you to be part of it. Let us know if you choose not to be part of the online fetival.

Can I attend the in-person festival events too?
Yes! Each online filmmaker will receive one complimentary VIP pass to the in-person festival events at Galaxy Theatres Austin (6700 Middle Fiskville Rd, Austin, TX 78752) on April 18th, 2026
If you’d like to bring guests to enjoy the in-person screenings, additional tickets will be available for purchase on our website or at the check-in table.

Will I be eligible for awards?
Absolutely. Films screened online are fully eligible for awards in all categories, including Best of Fest and special recognitions.

How can I promote my film’s screening?
You’ll receive an Official Selection laurel to share your achievement, plus we’ll provide you with exact timing and promotional materials for your online block. Feel free to invite your friends, family, and supporters — they’ll be able to easily buy a ticket and watch your film securely online.
